The Nocturne Series
This format and the success of the Smithfield Nocturne attracted interest from other cities with a second event now confirmed for Salford in 2008. More events are planned in 2009 to create The Nocturne Series with target locations including Glasgow, Birmingham, Brighton and Canary Wharf.
The Salford Nocturne
The Salford Nocturne will take place around the Lowry in Salford Quays on 30th August 2008 and will be part of a larger Salford Festival of Cycling. The festival is supported by Salford City Council and will also feature a mass participation event on Sunday 31st August.
The event also falls after the Beijing Olympics Games and will serve as an Olympic homecoming for some of the British Cyclists which will maximise media interest and exposure. The format will be similar to the Smithfield Nocturne with the highlight the Elite Criterium.
The course runs around the Lowry, along the canal in front of the Manchester United football Stadium and through the pedestrian areas of the Salford Quays complex, providing an excellent opportunity to create a festival environment. Beer tents, interactive displays, cycling demonstrations, trade stands will all create an exciting spectator experience.
